Lobot Gallery is currently seeking national and international artists for our Young Artist in Residence Program. We are seeking young artists (18-35) to participate in one month residencies at our West Oakland gallery. The residency includes a large personal studio space adjacent to the gallery plus a small private room. Bathrooms and kitchen space are shared with other live/work artists. The resident will also have access to a full screen printing shop, wood shop, and music practice studio. Residents will be required to help out with gallery duties at least 10 hrs a week, which includes emailing, helping set up and hang shows, cleaning/maintenance of the gallery, and attending events. The residency is free, and there is no application fee.
Ideally we are searching for determined hard-working young artists who have no career. Artists recently completing an undergraduate art degree are our main focus, but any young artist who displays a seriousness of purpose and dedication to their work will gladly be considered. Artists in any media are accepted.
We are using an open application deadline for the first 6 months of the 2007 schedule. This means that we are filling the residency as we go. We are accepting applications now for the spots beginning in May. We will fill the spots as we find artists who we think fit best, so get your application materials sent asap if you are interested in the first schedule for next year. The application deadline for the November-December 2007 schedule is July 1st.
In order to keep things simple there is no formal application. Artists are required to submit a CV, a short statement about what they would like to work on during their residency, and 10-15 images of their work. Ideally we would have all digital submissions. We prefer to see images on a web site as emailed images do not always open properly. The written materials are preferably sent as an email. We are however flexible on this process and will accept hard copies in the form of paper print outs and slides. If you submit with slides you must include a SASE for the return of your slides.
